Mac Sound Problems

Hi,

Anyone have an ibook with sound problems?

Sometimes the sound goes very loud and
destorts.

On the topic of sound, I always seem to
have problems with the volume of audio.
Is there a proper way to record sound so
you don't loose volume. At the moment
I'm just using a mic and a minidisk player,
then playing the minidisk into a PC (or
a mac) to get an audio file.

I do not have a mac.

However in my experience, when using a outside device such as a tape player, you have to adjust the devices volume to a specific level or you will get static on computer play back.

It will sound fine through your computers speakers while recording but on playback it will be distorted.

Also, try adjusting the line in slider or your equivilant

Also try reading your help file for the editing software, not the help section (although couldn't hurt) but the read me file. You may need to use a specific setting or you will get digital static.

"Sync to audio" is the setting for VW3 or you get a hisssssssss.

if you have an audio monitor on the destination device, do not let any peak go above 0db

this can be a problem if you have one loud bit and the rest is quiet, but then you will need a compressor but then you will lose the dynamic between loud and quiet of course

if the source is digital, investigate a way to transfer it digitally

Also take note that when recording on a digital device your levels are in decibels...

-12 dB is a good level.
